Tally 9 Migration Problem

fundraiser for MUDHA

Good people,

A team of 70 people is on location to build structures in the makeshift camps, including Sonia Pierre itself, many doctors, nurses, psychologists and many young assistants who speak Kreyol, can then communicate with the people there.

you take care of medical care to casualties, to provide for the psychological care of traumatized and trying to live together in the camps.

helpers have set up blog
As we learned from Sonia, they care for including the children from an orphanage in Leogane, west of Port au Prince, which destroys wurde. Dort waren an die 300 Kinder untergebracht.

Nähere Informationen über die aktuellen Aktivitäten der dominikanischen HelferInnen gibt es auf dem (spanisch-sprachigen) Blog emergenciahaiti.blogspot.com .

telephone conversation with Sonia Pierre

(Skype call on 25 January 2010 with Sonja Rappold and Ulla Ebner)

Sonia Pierre tells us about people who have lost limbs in women who are traumatized and orphaned children. She herself is now in Santo Domingo, but will leave for Haiti tomorrow and until 7 February stay there.

Many Dominiko-Haitian young people are currently active in Haiti as helpers and assistants. Even Sonia Pierre's own children. "But now they have to come back to the Dominican Republic, because of the school" must, "says Sonia," I got them for a few days an apology written, but pretty slow they go back to school. "

Sonia's brother in Haiti has survived, but two of his children died. has your old mother, who lives in the Dominican Republic, which they can not yet say that they told us, because their health is not very good. In fact, Sonia was her mother this year promised a trip to Haiti, her home town of Jacmel. "I'm now all the time kept away from the TV, I did not want her to see these images, that would not cope."

message from Sonia Pierre

(letter of 24 January 2010, Barbara Kühhas, CARE Austria)

love Barbara,
it was a great pleasure today tomorrow to talk to you - to hear the voice of a friend is what we need children of Haiti now. Thanks for the solidarity, as you know we are in a state of emergency and now it's about the survivors alive - are the totally overcrowded camps are already beginning to break the associated diseases.

There no water for sanitation and very little to drink, have received, there are still camps that to date no help. The situation of women, boys and girls is much more difficult in these moments. They are the most affected by the general violence and sexual violence by the specific - and diseases such as vaginal infections, flu-like fever, conjunctivitis, vomiting and diarrhea, etc. are spreading.

come in the Dominican Republic a great many people - including women and children who have no place to live and very sick, and we want to help them while giving psychosocial support.

01/23/2010 BOLETIN VI del equipo dominiquo haitiano

The Dominican-Haitian network "Jacques Viau" The Movement of Dominican-Haitian Women (MUDHA ) and the social-cultural movement of Haitian Workers (MOSCTHA) have gone in a convoy of 12 cars with water, food, medicines, clothes and medical staff (25 doctors and 12 nurses) to Haiti, where four nurses from Haiti so joined us.

Throughout three days we have given medical attention, have treated more than 1000 persons. We have followed up on wound healing, are treating a more tan 350 persons who are connected with “suereo”, and other medical problems. We are also working with a psychologist who is part of the delegation.

Flüchtlinge in den Camps werden registriert
In this moment we are taking a census of the refugee’s camps which are overpopulated and we speak with the authorities, who are working out of their offices in open space, in order to organize secure camps and to decongest the existing ones.

The camps are a big challenge, they don´t have sanitation services – the people need to defecate in the same areas. There is a lot of garbage, almost all the people are under bad blankets, because there are not enough tents for the number of people, the people try to stay at the boarders as the trembling is still there and the people are very frightened. There are no recreation spaces for children and youth.

Tote bei Nachbeben
There are still persons dying due to the ongoing tremblings, because the people are looking for places in the affected houses, which are almost collapsing and with the new trembling they collapse. There are still some rescue actions until yesterday, where still some persons alive could be found.

The outbreak of diseases has started - we find a lot of gripe, Diarrhea, vaginale infections at women and girls, eye-infections like Conjunctivitis and also dehydration, stomach problems – the need for wáter and food is still one of the biggest problems.

Psychosoziale Betreuung
MUDHA; MOSCTHA and the network Jaques Viau, do have plans to make a work on longer term scale in the psychosocial field and community organization; in this sense we have trained our Young people of our institutions; to work in shifts for 15 days terms in Haiti; the Young people are:
- Curing wounds and take care of the wounded people
- Gather necessary data
- Organization of refugee camps
- Work with the children and Young people in recreational activities, sing in spanish and creol, play cards, domino and basket ball;

Waisenhaus mit 300 Kindern
In Leogane we are taking care of an Orphan House with more than 300 children; where a group of Young people is taking care. For these children we brought materials to paint, games, etc. – the Young people taking care are organizing games for the kids.

With the women we are staring up activities where they can produce something and also capacity building – which is not only aid and distraction in the face of the catastrophe which they have survived; but which can also help them to generate some economic income.

20.01.2010 BOLETIN V del equipo dominico haitiano

We have received the news from our team which operates in Haiti. A part of it tried to get to Jacmel, but couldn´t get through, as the roads are very dangerous and the earth is going on trembling, and still opens up, which makes it imposible/difficult to reach the community.

Center of operation: Port au Prince
For the moment the team is in Port au Prince and its surroundings. We do have our center of operations in the building of CTH/INAFOS, which is in the road de Freres Pétion-Ville, Haiti, close to the hospital of the haitian community.

Furthermore we are giving assitance out of the catholic church of Mtissant and in the Hotel Royal of Carrefout.

Aid comes slowly
It was informed that the aid comes very slowly and that the people are in urgent need for food an wáter which is a inmediate need.

Infections have started to spread, a lot of flue, vaginale infections, infections of eyes and others more.

The team informed us that now they are giving assistance to more tan 600 orphan children in the zone of Leogane and around 140 girls and boys in Puerto Principe.

As urgent needs we do need:
• food in cans and other food which does not easily get spoiled
• clothes
• drinking water
• antibiotics
• pain killer
• medicine for vaginale infections
• medicine for eye infections

Currently our camps for attention do need a lot of goods.
